What is the Difference Between Silver and Base Prizm Cards?
The silver cards have the rainbow effect in the light, where the base prizm card doesn’t have any color changes in the light. The silver cards have the word prizm on the back of the card, where as the base prizm cards don’t have the word Prizm on the back. There are other factors as well as just visual about the 2 cards.
The silver card is much rarer than the base prizm card. For example, in the PSA population report, there are over 16,000 2018 Panini Prizm Luka Doncic PSA 10 base prizm cards. There are alittle over 2,000 2018 Panini Prizm Luka Doncic Silver Prizm card in PSA 10. This is also reflected in their pricing as well. A base prizm card costs $1,100 as of 4/30/21. A 2018 Panini Prizm Luka Doncic Silver Prizm PSA 10 costs $6,500.00
Below are some other refractors and/or inserts that you can buy in most sets. They sometimes can be confusing if they are not in a graded slab. All of these cards are rarer than a base card. But they vary greatly in value from one another.
What is a Hyper Refractor Sports Card?
The card will have a rainbow effect in the light but it will also show the shape of a triangle throughout the card. These cards are rarer than base cards. They typically don’t come in different colors.
These cards are typically slightly more expensive than base cards. They’re not as popular as other refractors, but they typically keep their value due to the fact that fewer of these cards are made compared to the base cards.
What is a Mojo Refractor Sports Cards?
The card will have a rainbow effect in the light. It has 5 sides of an octagon shape and it diagonally from the bottom left to the top right of the card. They will come in different colors like purple. blue, green, gold, orange, and red. The card companies either Topps or Panini will have an autograph and non-autograph versions of the shimmer card.
The colored mojo refractors typically will reflect how many cards were made for that particular card, ie. blue /150, green /99. That will be one part of the determining factor in pricing. They should be slightly more money than base cards, but it’s not the case in all instances.
What is a Shimmer Refractor Sports Card?
This will have dashed lines that are diagonal from the top corner to the opposite bottom corner. They will come in different colors like purple. blue, green, gold, orange, and red. Topps or Panini will have an autograph and non-autograph versions of the shimmer card.
What is a Disco Refractor Sports Card?
The card will have small circles or reflective dots throughout the front of the card. They will come in different colors like purple. blue, green, gold, orange, and red. Topps or Panini will have autograph and non-autograph versions of the shimmer card.
What is an Xfractor Sports Card?
The card will have dark and light squares in a pattern of a checkerboard throughout the front of the card. It is reflective in the light. They don’t come in different colors. They are rarer than other refractors which makes these cards more valuable.
The xfractor sports cards are priced much higher than a player’s base card. There are a lot fewer of these cards produced which raises the price of these cards.
